One of my favorite smoothie recipes is this incredible chocolate cherry smoothie! A delicious (and nutritious!) way to combine the flavors of cherries and chocolate, this luscious treat is the perfect on-the-go breakfast, snack, or healthy dessert (you can even make it into a smoothie bowl)!

Cherries contain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, while bananas provide potassium and fiber. Combined with other nutrient-dense ingredients like yogurt or milk (or even spinach!), you’ve got yourself a well-rounded and energy-packed smoothie.

You can achieve a deliciously creamy texture with cow’s milk or non-dairy milk like coconut milk or oat milk, or customize it to be exactly how you’d like it to be.

How to Make a Chocolate Cherry Smoothie

In the bowl of a high-speed blender or food processor, add milk, cherries (pitted), frozen bananas, frozen spinach, rolled oats, unsweetened cocoa powder, and honey to taste. Blend until the smoothie is smooth and creamy. Add more milk if necessary to achieve your desired consistency.

How to Serve

Smoothies are best enjoyed immediately for the best overall taste, temperature, and creaminess. This chocolate cherry smoothie is great sipped through a straw or served in a bowl topped with various toppings. Some of my favorite smoothie toppings include:

  • Fresh or frozen fruit
  • Granola or rolled oats
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Dried fruit
  • Nut or seed butter
  • Honey or maple syrup
  • Spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, cocoa powder)
  • Dark chocolate
  • Puffed grains

Storage and Freeing

Store this smoothie in an airtight container or jar in your fridge for up to 24 hours. Don’t worry if the consistency changes–separation is normal! It just needs a good shake. You can also freeze this smoothie and thaw it to enjoy within two weeks, or eat it frozen as a popsicle within three months.

  • tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon honey, more to taste
