Germany has been my home for nearly 5 days.
I’ll admit,
I cried a lot my first day here,
in my room,
on Skype with the fiance.
Not because the family isn’t amazing- they are,
but, mostly because I was exhausted,
in a new place,
and just trying to make sense of it all.
With each day that passes,
I feel more comfortable-
more and more at home.
I’m starting to see that this was the right decision for me.
I am happy.
(aside from missing the fiance all the time)
I wanted to share some photos with you of the village I now call home-
at least for the next year.
Welcome to,
Benediktbeuern, Germany
window to my bedroom |
the Alps are literally in my backyard |
I am hoping to travel to a few villages and cities in southern Germany,
Salzburg or Vienna, Austria,
and maybe Prague,
in April.
(mostly day trips)
My schedule is flexible,
and I have a lot of time to travel in April, end of May and June.
The whole point of this experience is to get out and see Europe,
so, why waste any time?

Overall, I am so happy I took the leap to make this happen.
Don’t get me wrong,
there will be days that are exhausting-
taking care of two kids isn’t a joke,
and being away from family, friends and the fiance is an everyday challenge,
But, I am lucky,
and found a family that is so warm,
and so welcoming,
it is hard not to feel like you are part of the family.
The biggest challenge?
learning how to drive a manual car.
Hope all of you had a wonderful week!
that little town is SOOO CUTE!!!! i want to visit!! So glad you are getting settled..the homesickness will come and go..soak it all up!
Congratulations. You made it! Your town looks so beautiful and everything I would picture a Bavarian German town to look like. So exciting!!!
XO,
Catherine
Looks lovely! I've never traveled outside of major cities in Germany and am very much looking forward to seeing the other side through your posts.
Also the first car I learned to drive in was a manual. My best advice is to be extra patient with yourself. It is hard for sure but give yourself some slack. Once you've got it, you'll feel so awesome!
the homesickness fades a bit as you get settled and make some friends, I promise. You are lucky to have a family to be a part of, that will surely make it easier. and yay for day trips!
The place looks awesome!! Nothing like anything around here. I am definitely living through your pictures so keep posting them! Hope your having fun over there!
Glad you are safe and sound and love your family, what an adventure!!!
Beautiful pics hon!!!
hugs
Good for you Bailey! I don't know if I would have the strength to do what you're doing!
I hope you enjoy every minute & I can't wait to follow along with you! = )
Sorry it has been a tough start but I am sure it will get better/easier as you continue to develop relationships with those around you (your new "fam" :)). wow … what views and sights!! How awesome is technology … skyping with your fiance helped the homesickness I'm sure 🙂 xxCat
I know how you feel, moving far from home for the first time is really hard, just keep up your upbeat attitude, soak in your surroundings & enjoy the adventure!
