Germany has been my home for nearly 5 days.
I’ll admit,
I cried a lot my first day here,
in my room,
on Skype with the fiance.
Not because the family isn’t amazing- they are,
but, mostly because I was exhausted,
in a new place,
and just trying to make sense of it all.

With each day that passes,
I feel more comfortable-
more and more at home.
I’m starting to see that this was the right decision for me.
I am happy.
(aside from missing the fiance all the time)

I wanted to share some photos with you of the village I now call home-
at least for the next year.

Welcome to,
Benediktbeuern, Germany

I am hoping to travel to a few villages and cities in southern Germany,
Salzburg or Vienna, Austria,
and maybe Prague,
in April.
(mostly day trips)

My schedule is flexible,
and I have a lot of time to travel in April, end of May and June.
The whole point of this experience is to get out and see Europe,
so, why waste any time?

Overall, I am so happy I took the leap to make this happen.
Don’t get me wrong,
there will be days that are exhausting-
taking care of two kids isn’t a joke,
and being away from family, friends and the fiance is an everyday challenge,
But, I am lucky,
and found a family that is so warm,
and so welcoming,
it is hard not to feel like you are part of the family.

The biggest challenge?
learning how to drive a manual car.

Hope all of you had a wonderful week!

Glad you made it!!! It is perfectly normal to feel the way you do. When people ask me about culture shock, I think the only way to describe it is "awkward" I felt awkward for being so sad and heartbroken over leaving behind people I love, but at the same time feeling incredibly overwhelmed with excitement and thanksfulness for adventure! Just take it a day at a time and cry when you need to – you are an adventureous woman of courage to do this!!!

Looks like such a cute and cozy city! Glad it's slowly starting to feel like home, and just keep remembering that your fiance will be out to visit in no time at all 🙂 I think I saw somewhere that he's working in India, are you going there to visit at all?

    Keep the updates coming!

I think it's completely natural to have those emotions in a new place. Especially leaving the comfort of you family, loved ones, and fiance.
The photos look amazing though, and I still look forward to all the exciting stories you're sure to have from your experience.

Grüß Gott!! The first few days are always rough! I love that I've been in Germany about 1.5 yrs and haven't been to either Prague or Salzburg… Although, they are on my list!
