Why You’ll Love Spiked Hot Chocolate

What makes our Spiked Hot Chocolate so special? The addition of cayenne pepper provides a subtle kick to the hot beverage, while the warmth and sweetness of cinnamon balance out the flavors perfectly. These spices not only enhance the chocolate and wine flavors but also create a cozy and comforting feeling when sipped.

This sophisticated and adult version of classic hot chocolate is the perfect indulgence any time you want to treat yourself to something truly special. Top it off with marshmallows and whipped cream for an extra creamy finish. And if you’re looking to make this a vegan spiked hot cocoa, simply replace the dairy milk with unsweetened almond milk or oat milk and leave out the whipped cream.

Best Wine for Spiked Hot Chocolate

Your best bet is to use a red wine that you enjoy drinking on its own. If you’re not sure, a good choice is either Merlot, Zinfandel, or Syrah.

How to Make Spiked Hot Chocolate

Heat the milk and dark chocolate chunks in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is melted. Add the spices and then pour in the red wine, whisking and heating until hot. Adjust the spices to taste, and top with marshmallows or whipped cream.

Tip: Avoid heating for too long; otherwise, you’ll “burn off” all the alcohol in the wine!
